Pimobendan Chewable Tablets
What is Pimobendan?
Pimobendan is a chewable tablet prescribed for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs. It has been shown to significantly improve the clinical signs in and extend the life expectancy of dogs with canine heart disease.
Pimobendan is for dogs more than 6 months old suffering from canine heart disease.
Why use Pimobendan?
Pimobendan increases the ability of the heart to pump blood and reduces stress on the heart muscle. It is intended to increase life expectancy in dogs with heart failure.
How does Pimobendan work?
Pimobendan works through two complementary modes of action; it opens up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart, which lowers the pressure on the heart and reduces the work it has to do to pump blood around your dog’s body. At the same time, Pimobendan has a direct effect on the heart muscle, helping it beat stronger and pump blood more efficiently.
What are the side effects of Pimobendan?
In most cases, diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy spontaneously resolved with continued dosing.
What special precautions are there?
Do not give Pimobendan to animals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, or any other condition where an increase in cardiac output is not recommended. Do not give this medication to dogs less than 6 months of age or to pregnant or lactating animals.
What to do if overdose?
In case of Pimobendan overdose, contact your nearest emergency animal hospital.
How can I store Pimobendan?
Store at controlled room temperature 59-86°F (15-30°C).
Helpful Tips:
If your dog refuses to take medication, try hiding a Pimobendan tablet in a tasty treat or pill pocket.
